Many banks offer student checking accounts for individuals in high school or college. To take advantage of this type of account, simply bring your student ID in addition to one of the above forms of identification.

Required Documentation for a Credit Card and Other Loans

Some banks, such as Bank of America, allow undocumented immigrants to open up lines of credit. To do this, you must have an ITIN – How to Obtain an ITIN and present this number when opening your bank account or sit down with a banker and ask them to associate your ITIN with your account.

While your initial limit will be low (usually around $1,000), by adding your ITIN to your bank account and regularly paying off your credit card balance you will steadily build your credit. Eventually, the bank will be willing to raise your credit card limit or provide you loans based on the credit history of your ITIN.
